A NOTE FROM THE CO-PRESIDENTS
Dear Williamsburg Northside Families,
We would like to introduce ourselves, Liz Stretch and Ryan Fishman and we are honored to be serving as Co-Presidents of the Williamsburg Northside School Parent Association (WNS PA). Our children began at WNS some years ago: Viva began as a Sea Turtle in 2010-11 and is now in Fifth Grade, Austin joined the preschool as a Parakeet (3’s) in the summer of 2014 and is excited to be in 1st grade this year.
We have been active in the PA for some time, namely with its Food, Health and Wellness Committee, which has spearheaded some excellent initiatives including new school lunch providers, healthier organic snacks, the annual Bake Sale and the Family Table. We see ourselves above all, as part of a strong community that incorporates all WNS parents. We are all the PA.
One of our main goals, in 2017-2018, is to increase participation and enhance opportunities for parents to forge greater connections across campuses.
The PA is made up of a diverse group of parents committed to improving the school environment and continuing its status as a standard bearer of creativity, learning, collaboration and community in Brooklyn. In recent years, the efforts of dedicated members of the PA have laid a solid foundation for this robust organization. Each year, we strive harder and this year we encourage you to join us. We aim to refine and develop events with your involvement, strengthening the community as a whole. With your help and input we can soar to new heights, surpassing expectations for what a strong school can be for our families.
Monthly meetings are held at the Lower School campus. We jokingly tell everyone we do not take attendance! This year they will usually fall upon the first Tuesday of each month at 7:00pm. These meetings are your opportunity to join the discussion about the PA’s efforts and your desires for the school and community. They also offer you the chance to find a way to volunteer to move those goals forward. Currently, there are several committees to join: namely, Communications; Food, Health and Wellness; and Inclusivity. We will be adding Events and After-School committees this year and be introducing a Middle School Liaison position. There are also plenty of one-time volunteer opportunities. In all, there is a way for everyone to contribute!
Within the PA there are no hard set rules: you tell us what your time commitment could be and your particular interests or expertise. We are stronger together. Each person's contribution really counts, no matter how big or small. The PA offers you all a GRAND WELCOME and INVITES YOU TO PARTICIPATE. As Co-Presidents, we would like to hear all your voices and have our representative voice unified. Amazing parents of WNS, we cannot wait to meet you.
See you very soon!
Peace & love,
Liz & Ryan
